Accession Number: 01154307
Record Type: Component
Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: This study aims to explore the impacts of perceiving negative experiences among paratransit users, and its effects on their willingness to continue using this mode in the future. The analysis is based on data from the revealed preference (RP) and person trip surveys conducted in Bandung, Indonesia in mid-2008. The results show that the users’ reasons of use and attitudes towards different negative experiences are unique between gender. For example, the propensity of men to continue using paratransit when they had negative experiences are influenced by many conventional behavioral factors such as cost, practicality, and accessibility, while that is not the case with women. Women are more concerned with safety rather than cost and other tangible factors. This finding stresses the importance of considering gender effects in developing public transport policy, especially for paratransit system in developing countries.
