Abstract:

This paper studies the user optimum dynamic traffic assignment on a single destination network consisting of a highway and a city street. It is found if there is a slow-moving back of the queue on city street, at a given time there is only one active city street route. In the case of fast-moving back of the queue, more and more off-ramps will be used as trip time increases, but the capacities for these routes are geometrically decreasing. Graphical solutions are also provided for both cases.
