These six activity categories are: in-home, work, maintenance, discretionary, other and shared activities. Using non-linear seemingly unrelated regression equations, a model structure that explicitly accounts for both spouses is constructed. This model is applied to households with and without young children to compare if and to what extent are differences in the type of household interaction and the relative influence of the spouses. The data for the models was extracted from activity and travel diaries collected in The Netherlands in 2000. Results indicate a very high goodness-of-fit. In households with children, husbands have a higher relative influence than wives. However, there is more equal influence from both spouses in households without children. This study also explores possible combinations of household interaction types and relative influence outcomes.
