The roundtable is designed to facilitate a dialogue between the freight industry and the U.S. DOT on the challenges that the nation faces in supply chain logistics, and to enhance the department's understanding of the policy and the technical implications of logistics for the freight transportation system. The discussions have continued through a series of meetings, a public workshop, and a technical session at the 2006 TRB Annual Meeting, in parallel with the U.S. DOT's development of a national freight policy framework, designed to target resources to key components of the nation's freight network.
