Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The purpose of this resource paper is to track recent trends in the development and use of performance measures in transportation, assess the current state of the practice, and point out further issues that must be addressed to use measurement systems most advantageously. Focusing primarily on state departments of transportation, the paper addresses the questions of what is measured, how performance is measured, how performance data are reported, and how performance measures are used. The paper concludes with a summary of recent trends in the field and outlines continuing challenges that need to be addressed.
