Title: Blue Angel for Printing Products: An Assessment of New Acoustic Requirements in 2004
Accession Number: 01054359
Record Type: Component
Availability: Institute of Noise Control Engineering Iowa State University, 210 Marston Hall Abstract: This paper describes how the German eco-label Blue Angel (“BA”) has become an important environmental label certification program for printing products. Administration of the BA criteria and the awarding of environmental labels for specific products resides with the RAL German Institute For Quality and Certification (“RAL”). Included in the BA criteria are noise emission limits for sound power level. The three BA criteria to be reviewed in this paper are: (1) BA for Printers (RAL-UZ 85); (2) BA for Multifunctional Devices (MFD’s) (RAL-UZ 114); and (3) BA for Copiers (RAL-UZ 62). BA for Printers and BA for Copiers are revised editions of existing criteria. BA for MFD’s is a new certification. This paper will assess the new BA criteria acoustic requirements relative to: (1) previous versions of BA criteria; (2) newly defined sound power level limits; (3) newly defined operating modes; (4) deviations from industry standards; and (5) market implications and survey of actual product performance.
