Title: LOW-COST, DRIFT-FREE DGPS LOCOMOTIVE NAVIGATION SYSTEM
Accession Number: 00962929
Record Type: Monograph
Availability: National Technical Information Service 5301 Shawnee Road Abstract: This High-Speed Rail (HSR) Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) project developed a high-speed rail train navigation system to accurately determine train location, including on which of two or more parallel tracks a locomotive is located. The system includes a three-receiver, three-antenna Global Positioning System (GPS) heading reference system and parallel-track resolution software. The system also includes a heading rate sensor and a Doppler radar system to determine position, velocity, and heading when GPS satellite coverage is interrupted. Tasks in this concept exploration project included the development and evaluation of the system software, including a parallel track resolution algorithm. Field tests with the GPS attitude system mounted on the test locomotive were conducted on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.
