Abstract: This digest summarizes the findings of National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 8-40, "Evaluating Cultural Resource Significance Using Information Technology." The project (a) identified current methods used nationwide to manage and organize cultural resource inventory data and historic contexts, (b) determined whether information technology (IT) applications have been useful in developing resource inventories and historic contexts, and (c) provided recommendations regarding IT and non-IT applications to improve the development and use of resource inventories and historic contexts as tools for determining resource significance.
