Abstract:

This article looks at innovative services that deploy intelligent transportation systems in rural areas. Adapting urban intelligent transportation systems to improve rural transit services raises problems that involve operations, staffing, and financing, as well as service coordination, data management, and communications infrastructure. Several successes and initiatives are showing the way.
