Title: RESEARCH PAYS OFF: IMPROVING COMMUNICATIONS TO MANAGE INCIDENTS: A SOLUTION FOR RHODE ISLAND
Accession Number: 00924203
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Communication between Rhode Island Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island State Police--the major responders to incidents on state roads--was inefficient. The solution was to assign a Rhode Island state police trooper to the Transportation Management Center to assist operators in obtaining information from the police responding to incidents. A dramatic improvement in incident response was realized, resulting in reduced congestion delay to motorists. The study results proved that communication between the highway agency and incident responders is critical to effective freeway traffic management.
