Abstract:

This article examines how the growth in e-commerce, particularly in direct-to-customer fulfillment--the newest sales channel to consumers--has changed commercial transportation requirements. The number of smaller shipments is increasing, generating demand for timely and precise delivery and changing the role of the warehouse in the supply chain.
