Abstract:

Crash data show that, compared with cars, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pickups cause more deaths in other vehicles with which they collide. Crash tests point to some design modifications that may mitigate the crash effects of SUVs and pickups, but safety professionals should not overlook new protections for car occupants, according to the authors, insurance industry researchers.
