Abstract: Transportation projects are affected substantially by state and federal environmental laws. This paper provides a summary of the recurring issues affecting the development of environmental laws as they pertain to the approval and implementation of transportation projects, and it attempts to predict how the issues will be addressed in the foreseeable future. Also discussed is the need for lawyers practicing in the fields of environmental and transportation laws to remain abreast of developments in the physical and social sciences.
