Title: TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH: CURRENT PRACTICE AND A LOOK FORWARD
Accession Number: 00783799
Record Type: Component
Abstract: The waning years of the 20th century have seen major changes in the way we plan, coordinate, and conduct transportation research, primarily as a result of numerous trends in the transportation sector and in society as a whole. Transportation research programs must demonstrate how they support sound business practices while remaining responsive to the transportation profession's current and future needs. Tremendous advances in the fields of communication and information technology have had major impacts on research methods. Improved tools and resources, together with stronger partnerships with marketing and communications professionals, have contributed greatly to the ability to disseminate and implement research results. This paper examines the four most notable trends and future issues for transportation research: financing, administration, information management, and implementation of results.
