Abstract:

This article reviews human factors research efforts aimed at reducing driver error. Among the areas discussed are traffic sign design, stopping sight distance, and speed control. The conclusion drawn is that roads designed with the knowledge of why drivers make errors and where they are most likely to make them will be safer.
