Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In May 1997, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Rodney E. Slater created the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program. This educational initiative is designed to ensure that today's students are prepared to become the transportation workforce of the 21st century by inspiring a million students to pursue transportation careers and to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills by the end of the year 2000. This article describes the program's four components: Math, Science, and Technology Literacy Challenge (grades K-12); Community College Partnership; Undergraduate and Graduate Opportunities; and Life-Long Learning. Also discussed in this article are the Morgan Education Roundtable, created along with the Morgan Program; the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program Web site; and examples of educational activities undertaken by the modal administrations.
