Abstract:

The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) will transform the transportation research and technology program as we know it today. Accordingly, the Federal Highway Administration will assemble the relevant stakeholders to determine national research and technology priorities; coordinate implementing program activities across the federal government; and measure the results of those activities by partnering with state transportation agencies, the private sector, and the academic community to deliver research that meets the needs of the traveling public. This article describes specific provisions of TEA-21 that affect research, development, and technology at the Federal Highway Administration.
