Abstract:

Guidelines for the development and implementation of a material sampling and testing program for each test site included in the Specific Pavement Studies (SPS), experiment 9A (SPS-9A), Superpave™ Asphalt Binder Study are presented in this document. These guidelines should be followed by the Federal Highway Administration Long-Term Pavement Performance (FHWA-LTPP) Regional Coordination Office Contractor (RCOC) to develop a material sampling and testing plan tailored to the conditions encountered on each project. The report is presented in four main sections: Introduction; Material Sampling and Testing Requirements; Field Materials Sampling; and Laboratory Materials Testing.
