Accession Number: 00722469

Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In this keynote address, conference participants are welcomed, the issues discussed at a 1992 Transportation Research Board (TRB) conference on transportation data needs are reviewed, and comments are made on what we have learned from conducting personal and household travel surveys, what we have learned from the Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey, and, as we move toward the 21st century, the need to be concerned with access to data and public participation in decision making via the Information Superhighway. In conclusion, it is pointed out that we need to: do a better job of collecting data; do a better job of converting data into meaningful information; make data available; and ask ourselves who has access to the data, statistics, and information we collect and make available.
