Availability: American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) 444 North Capitol Street, NW Abstract: Geographic Information Systems, in concert with other state-of-the-art technologies offer the following benefits to traffic control systems: * Map based system representations allow the user to find, select, and perform actions on the components of the traffic control system from a geographical representation of the system. * Geocoded traffic control system information can be integrated with geographic information from other government agencies facilitating inter-agency analysis for the management of traffic control problem. * The use of Facilities Management techniques in traffic control aids in the maintenance of the components of the traffic control system which may include CCTV cameras, ramp meters, traffic signals, changeable message signs, signal controllers, and the communcations infrastructure.
