Abstract:

This issue contains ten papers concerned with ports, waterways, rail, and international trade issues. Specific topics addressed include: the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement; Ontario’s trade with the United States; ship impact risk analyses of two Hudson River bridges; supplemental freight on ferries; ship handling simulations in the evaluation of channels for two-way traffic; high-speed passenger ferry service; and waterborne passenger transportation user characteristics. Additional topics include: liquid cargo movements and incidents on the Upper Mississippi River; the impact of technological change on foreign trade for the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Panama Canal; and the use of advanced train control systems in scheduling and operating railroads.
