Availability: Transportation Research Board Library 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: This manual is intended for use by Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) regional center Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) personnel who are responsible for the measurement of deflection data on pavement test sections within the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) study. It presents background information pertaining to the general role of FWD testing within the SHRP program and, most importantly, provides a set of field operational guidelines for the data collection process. The manual is divided into four major operational issues of importance to each SHRP regional center. They are: (1) FWD Field Test Procedures, (2) Data Acquisition/Handling, (3) Equipment Calibration, and (4) Equipment Maintenance.
