Digital Copy: Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Research results can be put into action more quickly and effectively if technical assistance is given directly to the end user. New technical assistance programs have been initiated in the past few years to help local and state governments take advantage of federal research and to provide a forum for sharing information. The Federal Highway Administration's Rural Technical Assistance Program, the Urban Mass Transportation Administration's Rural Transit Assistance Program, and the Multi-State Technical Assistance Project are similar programs, but each addresses different problems and needs. In this article, the three programs are described by those who know them well.
