Abstract:

This Circular contains 112 research problem statements developed by committees within the Transportation Research Board under the guidance and direction of the Standing Committee on Research Needs. The problem statements were assembled in a priority rating recommended by each contributing committee. Each problem statement contains the following: name of problem; problem statement; objectives; current activities; and urgency. Topics covered include: general design - geometrics, safety; pavement design and performance; structures - bridges and culverts; asphalt concrete mixes; concrete mixtures and usage; construction and rehabilitation; evaluation systems and aggregates; stabilization; soil mechanics; geology and properties of earth materials; and railway systems.
