Digital Copy: Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The 1986 Roundtable program focused on improving communication and information exchange among transportation professionals throughout the world. 15 speakers from 11 countries participated and the presentation topics ranged from general overviews of the transportation research needs of various countries to specific technical findings. Summaries of those presentations are published in this article. France's B. Fauveau described PIARC (Permanent International Association of Road Congresses), an organization of national governments, whose membership includes highway departments, universities, associations, automobile clubs and individuals. Great Britain's G. Margason, outlined a major group of studies in the public passenger transport field that concern passenger service deregulation. H. Kuehn of W. Germany described his organization, the Road and Transportation Research Association, and discussed a program similar to the Long Term Pavement Performance project of the Strategic Highway Research Program. Other topics which have dominated the W. German highway research program were also noted. The presentations made by representatives from Sweden, Spain, Denmark, and South Africa are also summarized.
