Abstract:

The present and future uses of microprocessors in transit have been described and the concerns expressed by transit industry personnel about their introduction have been identified. Further discussions and research on several of these concerns need to be conducted. Microprocessor-based control equipment also needs to be implemented in test settings on operating transit systems and its performance monitored. Such efforts will ease the introduction of this new technology and prove its safety and reliability in operating environments. (Author)
