Abstract:
Three sprinkle treatment projects built in Illinois in 1980 and 1981 have been evaluated by using accident data, friction measurements, texture measurments, chip counts, and visual observations. This construction technique of applying a precoated chip to a freshly placed asphaltic concrete mat has proved to be a practical, economical method for providing a high-macrotexture, high-friction mat that should reduce accidents.
