This service is supported by grants from the province of Manitoba and is administered at the community level. Actual operations are usually undertaken by a local organization that deals with the handicapped. Available ridership and cost data are discussed. Problems encountered in attempting to estimate the number of potential users are examined along with possible conflicts with local taxi and ambulance services. The advantages and disadvantages of working through local governments are outlined. It is concluded that it is provide a satisfactory level of service at reasonable cost in areas where it is traditionally considered difficult, if not impossible, to provide such services.
