Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Recent technological advances have led to microcomputers with enhanced capabilities at reduced costs. The introduction of cheap and powerful microcomputers has contributed to renewed interest in the use of computers as learning aids. The recent revival in the use of computer-assisted learning (CAL) is outlined in this paper. Three examples of transportation engineering applications of CAL are described and assessed. These applications are used to discuss important considerations in the development of CAL materials for use in different situations and to illustrate some of the benefits and limitations of this educational technology. The major objective of this paper is to stimulate interest in the appropriate use of CAL in transportation engineering education.
