Title:

STATE OF THE ART IN VEHICLE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Accession Number:

00377055

Record Type:

Component

Abstract:

The state of the art in vehicle design and technology, both for direct services to the handicapped and for facilitating access for the handicapped to existing transportation systems, is reviewed. The paper discusses the vehicles used in four overall modes: conventional fixed-route bus services, paratransit services, heavy rail systems, and light rail systems. The discussion centers on current technology and vehicle design standards in each mode and also on the problems or complications posed by the built or service environments in which the vehicles operate.
