For example, rising costs may shift activity from the personal flyer toward greater use of business aircraft, a trend accentuated by a decrease in airline service to smaller cities which the business traveler must visit. Although manufacturers will incorporate composite materials into their aircraft throughout the 1980's, significant weight reduction will not be achieved in the next decade. However, turboprop power plants and pressurization of lighter planes will enhance the use of smaller, more fuel efficient aircraft for business. Considerable strides in avionics are anticipated over the next decade, resulting in better flight management, better fuel control, and eventual weight savings due to aircraft design changes. The advent of advanced ground-based agricultural equipment is leading to less demand for agricultural aircraft. On the regulatory fronts, there is concern that general aviation will pay a disproportionate of user taxes and that defederalized airports will impose high landing fees to make up for lost Airport Development Aid Program funds.
