Title:
CONSUMER REACTIONS TO THE 1979 GASOLINE SHORTAGE
Accession Number:
00330103
Abstract:
This paper evaluates the reactions to the 1979 gasoline shortage in relation to reactions to the 1973-1974 shortage and speculates on future implications. It develops the thesis that the kind of information available to the U.S. public and the manner in which it was presented was a major factor in the types of consumer responses, in turn, motivated many government and industry decisions that did not necessarily accurately reflect needs.
