This paper points out that the most critical problem facing the airline industry today concerns fuel -- its availability, price, and supply. The paper then presents background information on jet fuel availability and prices, discusses fuel efficiency and conservation, and describes the impact of the 1973-1974 fuel shortage and possible future actions resulting from shortages.
