Title: AASHTO SUBCOMMITTEE ON BRIDGE AND STRUCTURES: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Accession Number: 00193716
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The mission of the Subcommittee, since its inception at the end of World War I, has been to cooperate with private institutions, and with state and federal agencies in establishing uniform design, construction and maintenance standards for highway bridges. Various specification bulletins were published in the 1920's but the first edition of the comprehensive AASHTO bridge specification appeared in 1931 and has been continually changed, revised, and expanded up to the present 1977 edition. So far, the most important agenda for the 1981 edition appears to be the conversion to the metric system and a proposal for a fracture control plan for steel bridge design and construction.
