Title: COSTS AND PRODUCTIVITIES OF INNOVATIVE URBAN TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
Accession Number: 00193701
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The aspects of supply and demand that determine the costs and productivities of paratransit services are described, the variations in performance of the services are explained, and ways of improving them are suggested. Publicly owned dial-a-ride services are observed to be very expensive operations and, although the potential for cost reduction exists, these trip costs will probably remain high. The current practices of ubiquitous dial-a-ride services and extremely low fares are questioned. It is also suggested that increased participation in paratransit operations by the private sector--the taxi industry--promises significant improvements in the cost performance. /Author/
