Statistics on approximately 3000 accidents were studied. The objectives were to establish and evaluate appropriate procedures for developing the data base and associated statistical analysis techniques. Other objectives included deriving inferences about accident causation and evaluating the potential of possible countermeasures. The characteristics of the sample and the format and procedures used in data collection and reduction are summarized, and selected results are presented. /Author/
