Abstract:

The scope of this volume is noted (the first part deals principally with the definition and assessment of the landslide problem and the second part with solutions to the landslide problem). The definitions and restrictions of terms used in this volume are explained, and the economics of slope movements are discussed. Comments are made on the legal aspects of slope movements, particulary as related to transportation routes, liability in invasion of property or loss of support, property development, and liability of engineers and geologists for landslide damages.
