Title: INTERMEDIATE AND FINAL QUALITY CHECKS DEVELOPING A TRAFFIC MODEL

Abstract: THE FIRST SECTION OF THIS PAPER TRACES THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRAFFIC MODEL USED IN THE HAMILTON AREA TRANSPORTATION STUDY/HATS/. THE SECOND SECTION IS CONCERNED WITH THE COLLECTION AND PREPARATION OF THE INPUT DATA AND WITH THE VARIOUS METHODS USED TO EVALUATE THE RESULTS. THE INITIAL AND FINAL RESULTS OF THE COMPARISONS BETWEEN THE PREDICTED AND OBSERVED TRAFFIC VOLUMES AND PATTERNS ARE PRESENTED. OBSERVED TRIP-LENGTH DISTRIBUTIONS AND MODAL SPLITS WERE USED AS A GUIDE FOR MAKING REVISIONS FOR THE MODEL. THE TYPE AND EXTENT OF NECESSARY MODEL REVISIONS AND THE VALIDITY OF MODEL RESULTS AS A GUIDE TO TRANSPORTATION PLANNING ARE DISCUSSED.
