Abstract:

THE DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF A TRAFFIC PACER SYSTEM INSTALLED ON A HIGHWAY NEAR THE GENERAL MOTORS TECHNICAL CENTER ARE DISCUSSED. THE TRAFFIC PACER CAUSES CHANGING SPEED SIGNS AND STOP SIGNS BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS TO GROUP TRAFFIC SO THAT IT MAY PASS THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITH A MOVING START. THE CONTROL SYSTEM IS INTENDED TO INCREASE INTERSECTION CAPACITY AND REDUCE DELAYS AND TRIP TIME. /AUTHOR/
