Abstract: A CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM WAS WORKED OUT IN ORDER TO PREPARE THE SOIL ENGINEERING MAPS FOR COUNTIES HAVING UP- TO-DATE AGRICULTURAL REPORTS. ENGINEERING MAPS WERE PREPARED FOR COUNTIES ACCOMPANIED BY A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE GEOLOGY, MAJOR SOIL TYPES, AND ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING PROBLEMS OF EACH TYPE. THE PREPARATION OF THE ENGINEERING SOIL MAPS REPRESENTS THE FIRST PHASE OF A PROJECT ON THE PREPARATION OF A SOILS MANUAL.
