Abstract:

THE OBSERVED BEHAVIOR AND PERFORMANCE OF TWO SECTIONS OF CONTINUOUSLY-REINFORCED CONCRETE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTED IN NEW JERSEY IN 1947 ARE REPORTED. THESE SECTIONS, EACH APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE LONG, CARRY RELATIVELY HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC. ALTHOUGH, IN THE MAIN, THESE SECTIONS ARE STILL IN WHAT MIGHT BE REGARDED AS VERY GOOD CONDITION, THERE APPEARS TO BE AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SPALLING AND RAVELLING AT A NUMBER OF THE CRACKS IN THE OUTSIDE LANES, DUE TO THE CONCENTRATION OF HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THESE LANES. /AUTHOR/
