This workshop discussed six issues: the meaning of risk assessment require clarification; the federal government needs to focus its risk assessment activities; risk assessment methods and/or results need to be made more accessible to industry and local agencies; improvements in risk assessment methods are needed to better identify and evaluate critical situations; improvements in the reporting of risk assessment results are needed to provide better information to decisionmakers and to the parties affected by their decisions; and accident reporting and other data collection for risk assessment need to be designed and conducted more effectively. Each of these issues are discussed and the recommendations which emerged are presented.
