Title: TRAFFIC RECORDS ANALYSIS IN TEXAS
Accession Number: 00371718
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Traffic records are used as a source of data for 3 levels of problem identification and analysis: macro, midrange, and micro. The macro level is used for statewide comparisons and problem assessment, and consists of problem identification by the Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS). The midrange level is the basis for resource allocation and includes a decision model, SAVE CITY/SAVE COUNTY, in which cities and counties are ranked by accident count and rate to form a basis for resource allocation. The micro level which is used for treatment includes two computer programs, CASESTUDY and Traffic Accident Profile (TAP). CASESTUDY retrieves information on individual accidents to identify problems in specific areas. TAP melds engineering, enforcement, and education in an effort to get programs to work together. Details of this model and the computer programs are summarized.
