Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: From 1975 to 1980 the impact of constructing Interstate 95 in northern Maine on the distribution, abundance, and diversity of birds, rodents, and other mammals was assessed. Populations and activities of breeding birds and mammals were examined before, during, and after construction of I-95 along sections adjacent to various forest habitat types. Movements and densities of birds and mammals adjacent to and away from I-95 did not differ significantly during and after construction. The use and avoidance of newly created edges by some species were examined. Immediate losses of habitats for breeding birds were noted, and the long-term effects on populations of birds and mammals are discussed. (Author)
