Title: Strategic Decision Making and Multi-Objectives in Urban Freight
Accession Number: 01763923
Record Type: Component
Abstract: It is essential to look for new ways of improving efficiency in the urban freight industry due to the high and growing demand for road freight in urban areas and the limited infrastructure and capacity constraints. When making policy decisions it is important to consider the costs and benefits to all stakeholders. The acceptability of a policy by stakeholders is important and the sustainability of a policy relies upon the net benefits to each stakeholder followed by their level of acceptance. However, the decision-making power in supply chains is usually limited to one dominant stakeholder. Identifying such a dominant player in a supply chain and developing policies aimed towards receiving their acceptability is important for policymakers. Therefore, this study identifies the objectives of various stakeholders involved in supply chain as well and their priorities. Attention was paid to freight route selection, usage of toll roads and their present perception of several identified conditions. Modern practices such as load management options, advanced route selection techniques, efficient deliveries are also investigated which will help shape urban freight systems in the future.
