Abstract:

Presented is a summary of the responses to a questionnaire on the future of bridge engineering sent to leaders in the field of bridge engineering and construction. The questionnaire requested information on loads, geometry, materials, analysis, design, contracts, construction, maintenance, and other, nontechnical concerns. From the replies, as well as incidental related information on the future of bridges through the rest of this century is developed. A list of topics on which research is needed to attain the expected developments is also presented. (Author)
