Title: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE UNIFORM ACT?
Accession Number: 00335138
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Two questions are discussed: (1) Why does not the law cover all persons involuntarily displaced by a federally-assisted or federal program? (2) How can the rental assistance payment under Section 204(1) of the law be improved to meet the needs of low- and moderate-income persons? Section 204 of the Uniform Act deserves review form the viewpoint of controlling costs while expanding coverage to meet the needs of low- and moderate-income renters. An acute problem under the Act is that faced by low- and moderate-income tenants who often receive a lump sum payment to assist them in making a transition to better and more costly housing. This payment does not provide the means to sustain the new and better life. The Uniform Act's rental assistance provisions should be improved. The need for review of the Act's Section 8 on Existing Housing Program is also discussed.
