Abstract:

The workshop on relocation payments and services considered various types of relocation payments: (a) existing payments available under P.L. 91-64b; (b) payments that would be available under proposed legislation; and (c) other payment proposals that should be considered. The following aspects were discussed: residential fixed-payment moving expense schedules; maximum payment limitations for relocation housing payments; down payments; business and farm in-lieu-of moving payments: business and farm operation relocation allowance payment; increased tax payment; annual increase in maximum payment limitations; and increases interest payments. The workshop also considered specific questions with regard to relocation assistance advisory services: (1) How available are relocation services? (2) Are relocation services adequate? (3) Are relocation services used? The workshop made a series of recommendations: define and limit the scope of services; improve the quality of services; monitor and evaluate services more closely; develop professional standards for relocation agents; improve relocation reference sources.
