Title: UNIFORM RELOCATION POLICIES IN THE 1980S
Accession Number: 00335129

Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 is examined and it is noted that changes are needed to ensure that its application is as uniform as its title suggests. The hearing record indicates that the Act should be revised and updated to provide more current and equitable benefits to those displaced by federal projects while at the same time not halting positive redevelopment efforts. The difficulty of extending benefits to those "indirectly" displaced by federally-assisted projects or programs is noted. A blanket extension of benefits to such displacees is too sweeping to be put into the relocation amendements act. Increasing the value of relocation benefits and the exploration of ways in which the costs of increased benefits can be handled by state and local governments are also discussed.
