Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In these remarks we are told that we are at a turning point in history, where crucial choices must be made concerning transportation and the optimization of national resources. A reality to be faced is that the age of oil is coming to an end. The transportation sector of our economy stands out as the major user in a glaring overconsumption of energy resources. We are told that a chief goal of our nation must be a reduction in dependence on foreign oil. Two things are required to achieve this: an increase in production of all domestic energy resources, including domestic oil and gas, shale oil, synthetic fuels from coal, solar energy, and nuclear power; and conservation. One key to improved energy-efficient mobility is seen as a much-increased range of services and options. While the automobile is seen to remain as our most useful vehicle, it is seen as being used more efficiently.
